Listening Point Foundation Internship

A unique summer experience for undergraduate students.

We are looking for an undergraduate student interested in helping us further our mission and inspire people to connect to the outdoors through a wide variety of projects and programs. The goal of this program is to give interns a strong foundational knowledge of the life, writings, and philosophy of Sigurd F. Olson and the workings of a small, nonprofit organization by allowing them hands-on experiences in the daily workings of the Listening Point Foundation.

The projects and programs that interns are involved in can be somewhat varied along the lines of personal interest and skill sets. Prior experience with the following is not required, just a open willingness to learn and engage. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is interested in:

  • Helping to maintain the three properties owned and managed by the Foundation (including Listening Point).
  • Assisting with indoor and outdoor tours for student, organizational, and public groups.
  • Creating social media content to inspire connection between people and the natural world.
  • Brainstorming and helping in the creation of new displays for our exhibit space in the Olson family home in Ely.
  • Applying their skills, interest, and energy to a wide variety of tasks.

If you have ideas on how you would like to contribute, we are always open to hearing them!

Off-site housing is provided, along with a stipend of $450/month. Intern commitment will be 20-30 hours per week, including time on weekends and holidays. Interns are required to have a valid driver’s license and social security number. Selection criteria includes written statements, familiarity with the mission and vision of Listening Point Foundation, and interest in the life and writings of Sigurd F. Olson.

Interns are responsible for providing their own food and transportation between the Listening Point Foundation offices, Listening Point, and off-site housing. Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required. Please note that we are unable to accept international applicants at this time.

Ely is located on the edge of the  Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Northeastern Minnesota, surrounded by beautiful forests, lakes, and a vast wilderness. The outdoor recreation opportunities are plentiful (hiking/swimming/canoeing/fishing/etc.), as well as the bustling summer activity of a small tourist town with shops, outfitters, restaurants, and various events and festivals. Come join us for a unique summer internship experience!
